Bateleur bird - 40 cent Venda stamp set

Bateleur

The bateleur is the most spectacular eagle in Africa, handsomely coloured and conspicuous as it spends so much of the day on the wing. It glidees low over the savannas in effortless flight, searching for small animals, live or dead, that constitute its diet. It breeds at the end of summer, laying a single white egg in a stick nest highin a tree. Both sexes take part in incubation and care of the young. The bateleur has been eliminated from large areas through accidental poisoning.
