Ground Hornbill
The ground hornbill (bucorvus leadbeateri) is the largest hornbill in the world. It is largely territorial and lives in groups of up to eight members. Each group defends a territory of about 100 sq km and is dominated by a single breeding pair, while other group members assist in territorial defence and feeding the young in the nest. They are carnivorous, eating mainly insets, reptiles, snails and toads. They lay two whie egs on a bed of dry leaves oin a tree or rock cavity in summer. Only one check is riased each year. It takes seven years to reach maturity. Hence population growth is very slow.
