SCOTTISH TERRIER
There have been terriers in Scotland since at least the early 17th century, with the "Scottie" seemingly developed from a variety bred in the Blackmount region of Perthshire. It was not until 1879 that, after heated arguments, agreement was reached as to what exactly constituted a Scottish Terrier. Even then for some years these dogs continued to be called variously Scotch, Brokencoated and Aberdeen teriers—the latter because one of the main breeders lived in that city. Terriers were originally bred for hunting animals in burrows.
