TSHUGULU WHITE OR SQUARE-LIPPED RHINOCEROS

The white rhinoceros is Africa's second-largest land mammal after the elephant. A full-grown bull can attain a shoulder height of over two metres with a mass of some 2,300 kg. The animal is grey or dark grey in colour and has two horns on the snout, the front horn being the longer of the two. Its broad muzzle has a squared upper lip, adapted for grazing. A single calf is born after a gestation period of about 16 months. The calf usually ambles ahead of its mother, unlike the black rhinoceros calf which travels alongside or behind the mother.
