Foxy charaxes butterfly

The foxy charaxes, or koppie, is the most common and widespread member of the Charaxes family. It flies throughout the year but is less common during the winter months. It is a beautiful, robus butterfly and a fast, strong flier. The male habitually selects a favourite branch from which it exeerts, territorial rights and will return to tht smae branch repeatedly after chasing off intruders. The foxy charaxes spens hours on warm sunny days flying about the tops of small koppies, or hills, hence the vernacular name koppie charaxes. The adult buttefly's natural sustenance consists of exudations from trees.
