Mountain pride butterfly - 50 cent Venda stamp set

Mountain pride butterfly

Unlike most butterflies of the Satyridae family, the mountain pride is spectacular in size and colour. This species usually inhabits the higher and more mountainous areas and on hot days may be seen resting on the shady side of rocks or banks. They are vigorous and rapid fliers which normally fly only during the summer from December to March. They appear to have a predilection for red flowers.
