Siamese cat - 85 cent Venda stamp set

This distinctive breed was known in Siam (Thailand) for more than two hundred years before the first pair were brought to England in 1884. The Siamse is a slim, lithe, medium-size cat with a wedge-shaped head, large ears and brilliantly blue, oval-shaped eyes. The tail is long and tapering. The short, fine, glossy coat is typically bicoloured with the pale body colour shading into a darker colour at the points (face, ears, legs, feet and tail). The most common varieties are the seal point, blue point, chocolate point and lilac point Siamese. The cats depicted on the stamp are seal-point Siamese. The Siamese has a very distinctive voice. It is a very intelligent breed and makes a devoted and loveable pet.
