Thick-tailed Bushbaby - R1.05 Venda stamp set

Thick-tailed Bushbaby

The thick-tailed bushbaby is much larger than the lesser bushbaby. Its woolly coat is uniformly grey to grey-brown and it has large round eyes, thin mobile ears and a long furry tail. It is an excellent leaper — the feet are well adapted for grasping branches and the tail is used as a balancing organ. Bushbabies are nocturnal — their large eyes give them excellent night vision. Their diet includes berries, fruit and small vertebrates — such as birds and reptiles — and in less tropical areas also the gum and sap of trees. They are vocal animals and some of their loud screams resemble those of a baby in distress.
