Tigerfish

Renowned for its angling qualities, the tigerfish is one of Venda's most spectacular fishes. Its streamlined body, deeply forked caudal fin, hard armoured head and fearsome teeth are unmistakable characteristics of the species. Roving swiftly in open waters, it preys on fish and other creatures up to half its own length. Its large pointed teeth are replaced at intervals as they become worn or broken. The species favours warmer waters and is found in the lower reaches of the rivers of Venda, especaily the Mutale River.
